Pain and Prejudice: A Call to Arms for Women and Their Bodies by Gabrielle Jackson

4.0

Well, I guess it's not in our heads, and some of us really are suffering and enduring more than necessary, and yes: it's chronic pain... I don't have endo but I do have pelvic inflammatory disease, which wasn't mentioned anywhere near enough in this book despite being similar in its MO to endo. A really, really informative book about what we suffer and why: crap research and an almost pathological habit of dismissing women. Sigh. I've come out the other end of this feeling reassured I've got a great GP, I'm not a hypochondriac, I'm not 'overly sensitive' and everyone needs to understand more about empathy and listening to patient instinct. Would love to see more research into PID and it's connection to other chronic issues as well because we are a silent bunch who are often stuck in the dark and we ensure as much as anyone with similar diseases if not more because of the stigma attached to it.
