I have mixed feelings about this book. It's got some lovely descriptions, and borrows nicely from the classic Snow Queen (plus a bit of an Alice in Wonderland vibe), and it's obvious that the telling of this story was very important and meaningful to the author. But I think it suffers a bit from being too much of a pet project - an editor should have been a little stronger-handed in straightening it out a bit. It's lacking a bit of connective tissue or something; it feels a bit like the notes and passages about to be turned into a great book. However I really enjoyed reading it, even the parts that made me sad, and most of the characters are quite lovely. I think it's a solid 3.5.
