A lovely story with its own brand of fantasy. The prose style is simple, as befits a YA novel, but as the novel goes along it touches on poetry at times - a credit to the translation for making me enjoy the sentences as well as the story. The ending includes and epilogue which goes on for a bit too long, but aside from that the pacing is generally good and the slow buildup is sustained by an interesting setting and narrator. Good stuff!
