Moon of the Crusted Snow
by Waubgeshig Rice
Ominous, tender, unexpectedly clairvoyant.
I appreciated the dread and horrors of survival interspersed with tender family moments and images of resilience (also in the face of racist-horror).
I also appreciate that we never got a real explanation of what caused "the world to end". We know, we can *all* name right now any 3 things that could cause a devastating collapse of modern society. Why re-imagine what's already happening around us? That's not the point here.
In the end the message is colonizers gon colonize and life will go on.
