Winter Tales by Dawn Casey

5.0

Such a rich book. It has beautiful Nordic inspired illustrations and tales from around the world. The stories are folktales with the usual fairy tale elements of magical objects and talking animals. But they are so much more. There are wonderful lessons of generosity and friendship.
They warmed my heart. (Something great for a cold winter's evening.). My favorite was "Tanuki's Gold", a story about compassion and sharing, and "The Rabbit's Gift", a story showing the circle of giving that often comes from a single act of generosity.
There are repeated themes of the rewards of humbly caring for animals and plants in stories like "The Apple Tree Man" and "The Mother of the Sea".
These stories will stay with me!
