Thanks to this one post on Goodreads, I found the next all-time-favorite book that helps me through a long period of reading slump this year. On the acknowledgments of Red, White & Royal Blue, Casey McQuiston wrote; "What I hoped to do, and what I hope I have done with this book by the time you've finished it, my dear reader: to be the spark of joy and hope you needed." Joy and hope are exactly what this book gave me on my first and second read so far. On my first read, I can't help but thinking, "Are these Enemies to Friends to Lovers/Royal AU goodness that I crave on a published book finally come to live?" On my second read, the humor that charms me & the comfort this book give me never goes away.

Just like Danny Feekes, who recommend this book on that Goodreads article, I'm not that big on romance too. Somehow, Red, White & Royal Blue manage to exceed my expectation and more. Each character is flesh out and unique. I am finding myself aware of them & rooting for them until the very end. Alex & Henry's relationship plays out so naturally too, it's a pleasure to follow. The camaraderie and familial bond that coming through in the story also warm me up inside.

I must admit that I'm having a hard time following some political aspects in the story in my first read. On my second read a few months later, however, it's not a problem anymore. So, I don't have any complaints, really.

If you're looking for a romantic New Adult book full of humor with adorable fanfic-approved tropes, I think this book is for you.

On another unrelated note: I just realized that there's no Oxford comma on the book title? This small betrayal 🥺

I read this book through Bookmate.
