Prince of Thorns
by Mark Lawrence
My first time with this author. Did not find it to be an overwhelmingly great book. I put it in the ya it was a good read category.
It commits the biggest sin of sins for me in a book. It has way to much "this is how we got here" to it. I am not a great background of the character reader. A bit here and there is fine. Yes I know the characters have to be fleshed out as it were but that can be done in my opinion in far less then half the book. This book has way to much flash back in it for my liking.
That being said. The main characters for the most part are engaging and there is even a good bit of dark humour that kept me going.
The story line itself was engaging and even had a quality twist or two.
I will read the entire series eventually but there was not enough grab me by the throat to move them up the pile. they will have to wait their turn.
