Yrsas story starts pretty interesting, her little brother is suddenly gone and she is going on a journey to find him, unfortunately, her journey is not a long or harsh one and it plays in-between 3 nearby villages/cities. The journey is also not done by ship, what I had assumed looking at the cover, but rather by foot. Throughout her journey we get to understand their lifes and habits better. Yrsa as a character felt a bit flat for me, I would have liked more emotion I guess but her reasons for wishing to be a warrior were easy to understand and as a character she never felt unrealistic. At the end of the book there is even a short and interesting chapter about some historical facts about the time which this story takes place.
