Savage Rivals

MM Romance
Rivals To Lovers High School Sports Romance

I read this as part of the Brutal Boys On Devil’s Night Anthology but it ended on a cliffhanger at chapter 22 so I’m now revising my previous review as I’ve read this in its entirety. I must have liked this book more than I thought because I remembered most of what I read and that was early October. I can’t even remember what I read yesterday so Levi and Asher made an impression. I did skim over what I had read already just to get myself in the right mindset but I was a bit disappointed to find out there were only 6 new chapters. The anthology gave me 75% of the story and I wish it had given less so I’d get more of them now.
Levi and Asher are both team captains of rival high school football teams (soccer for us yanks). They both can’t stand each other but love trying to get under the other’s skin. The tension between them is delicious and when they finally snap, it’s hot AF. It’s also brutal. I loved it. Since this is high school, emotions are all over the place and both boys are coming to terms with their sexuality so this is new for both of them. However, they still have to pretend they hate each other due to the team rivalry and this rivalry is about to escalate in a way no one was prepared for.
I loved Levi and Asher as rivals and as a couple. Both of them were questioning how the fuck this even happened when there was so much animosity between them yet neither of them could stay away from the other. I also loved the two epilogues with one taking place 4 months after and the other one set 7 years later. I loved seeing how their relationship grew over time and how happy they both still were.
After reading the full book, I’m bumping up my rating to 4 stars. This rating is more for the couple than the actual story itself. I wonder if I would have liked this story more had I not read the first 75% of this book in the anthology a month ago because I remember being shocked and saddened with how the story ended. I hated having to wait to read the full book and even though I reread this now, I still knew what was going to happen so it didn’t impact me the same way it would have if I had gone in blind. This may be a very real case of, it’s me not the book but I can’t seem to get Levi or Asher out of my head so I changed my 3 star rating to 4 stars
