I don't have empirical evidence of this, but I feel like a large number of fans of GRRM's A Song of Ice and Fire series probably also count themselves as history geeks. Whether you're only a fan of the books or you've only watched the show (or both!), WINTER IS COMING is a really interesting read for the history geeks among us. This book takes a look at Westeros, points out possible (and admitted) real-world inspiration, and then goes into some detail about how those things worked outside of fiction. If you're interested in history, or if you're interested in how fictional worlds are built with bits and pieces of the real one, I recommend checking this out.
