The Witch's Daughter by Paula Brackston
3.0

I like this book better than Brackston's time travel series. Can't decide whether or not I want to read the next book.

One question, though: If Bess/Eliza/Elise/Elizabeth were so worried about Gideon being able to track her down through the centuries, why didn't she change her surname? Hawksmith would have been pretty conspicuous in any century, no matter what first name she used. Clearly, keeping her name so easily recognizable was a contrivance on the author's part to make sure that her readers understood that Bess, Eliza, Elise, and Elizabeth are all the same person. As if we couldn't figure that out. So I kind of feel a little condescended to.
