On Becoming Baby Wise: Giving Your Infant the Gift of Nighttime Sleep by Gary Ezzo, Robert Bucknam
4.0
I read this book when my baby was about 7 weeks and I think that was the perfect time to read it. I don’t think trying to get on any kind of schedule at all is feasible any earlier. I think the principles here can be adapted to your baby; I’d just caution against trying to follow any of this advice exactly. The most useful part for me was the concept of sleep-eat-wake time, and the advice to always try and make sure you’re giving a full feeding. I’d caution against strict adherence to the schedule they lay out though general guidelines are useful—for example, my baby does not nap at the same time every day, but I am following the advice of 3-4 naps/day for 30 minutes to no more than 3 hours, as well as spacing out feedings at least 2.5 hours, but not necessarily at the exact same times every day. And definitely don’t try and implement anything earlier than a month or two. For feedings especially I was told in the first month and beyond to always feed on demand. But since my baby has gained enough weight now and she’s shown capable of spacing out feedings, scheduling now works for us. Bottom line: some good advice here, just make sure you’re not adhering to strictly to it and don’t try and implement it before 7 weeks.
