I really wanted to like this book, but I was a little frustrated with the relationship aspect of the two characters. I don't expect everything to be just perfect between people, but the sheer idiocrasy that the main character has and how selfish he is for YEARS just really didn't make me like him at all. The love interest also allowing to continually be affected by this man for that many years just speaks volumes to how much he cares about himself. Not everything is perfect at all, but I would love to believe that people have more respect for themselves than allowing the ideas and thoughts of others control their future.

As a gay man that is something that is a constant in my own world, and learning to build myself up and respect myself without letting other people dictate how I should view myself, or not learning from past experiences and taking that and making yourself a better person due to life experiences. It's not an easy thing to accomplish, and reading about others with the same struggle but that consistently allow that to effect their life and to keep going back to the same ways without much growth at all just isn't appealing.

I think the time span of the relationship the characters have had plays a big role in my actual opinion on things. I appreciate being able to read this book early, just unfortunately it wasn't something I cared for even though I want to.
