The Pairing
by Casey McQuiston
I'm not sure how I feel about this book.
Pros: I loved the relationship between Kit and Theo. The setting of the tour of different countries was fun and I liked a lot of the side characters. Also, I enjoy reading queer stories that feel genuine and this does.
Cons: I did find a lot of the food and drink talk leaned a little pretentious. Which I know is normal language in those circles. But personally, I prefer to just enjoy food for what it is rather than dissect or describe it. So that element wasn't necessarily for me.Also, I checked out of the story a little bit when they decide not to be together at the end of the tour. It just didn't feel quite right for the characters who had spent the whole book realising they wanted to be together, even if they do end up together at the end.
I did find the POV change mid way a little jarring and it took me a while to get used to. I didn't know if it was temporary or not. Overall, it was a nice book and I don't regret listening to the audiobook. But it's not something I'd return to
