Between a Rock and a Hard Place
by Aron Ralston
I enjoyed the book and I will say that I don't know of anyone who is tougher and more resourceful than this young man in a life and death situation. That said, while I didn't really think that it necessarily applied in this final situation, I had trouble with his pattern of arrogance and little to no regard of safety for himself, and in some situations, others. The accident that almost cost him his life and did cost him his arm was really just a freak accident ---- granted, he should have let people know where he was going. He would have likely been found much sooner.
I thought one of the most interesting parts of the book is when they have alerted his mother that they have found him and he was alive. Her request was that she knew the gentleman would have to talk about the incident, to try not to be too harsh and not to judge. It made me think that she was also aware of his continual pushing the limits and that maybe others would see this on a much larger level since this incident was international news.
All in all, an interesting story, but I hope that this incident has taught him some humility.
