#1 Unhinged: ★★★★★ | 5 stars
#2 Psycho: ★★★★✮ | 4.5 stars
#3 Moonstruck: ★★★★★ | 5 stars
#3.5 Damaged: ★★★★☆ | 4 stars
#4 Headcase: ★★★★☆ | 4 stars
I was so excited to see one of the murder twins get his book, and this definitely lived up to my expectations.
First, I want to say that if suicide or suicidal ideation are a trigger for you, please proceed with caution because a huge part of the plot of this book revolves around these themes. I will say however, that I thought Onley James handled these concepts with both nuance and care which I really appreciated.
Asa and Zane are fantastic together. And, I really loved that even though their relationship dynamic is very reminiscent of Adam and Noah's it still felt unique - like it's own thing. Asa is incredibly possessive which is to be expected. But, I really liked Zane's form of submission. He'll submit - but, he's gonna make Asa work for it.
Three Thoughts:
1. This is my first experience with primal kink, but Asa and Zane are fire together.
2. While I don't necessarily have an issue with twincest between consenting adults (it's not my jam, but you do you) I'm glad Onley James didn't go there in this series for a couple of reasons. I don't think throwing something that taboo into the middle of a series is a good idea if it wasn't explicitly clear from the outset. But, it also shows that a relationship doesn't have to be sexual to be close. It's very obvious that Asa, Zane, Avi, and Felix have a unique bond between the four of them. They don't all have to have sex to prove it. And, the idea of these possessive psychopaths being fine with "sharing" their chosen partner doesn't really make sense, even for the twins.
3. The plot of this book is one of my favorites of the series. It had me completely invested in the solving the mystery right alongside them.
This is a fantastic entry into this series, I cannot wait to see Avi and Felix get their HEA. Also, at the end of the ebook, there is a link for a bonus epilogue - which you should 100% read. I really liked seeing Asa, Zane, Avi, and Felix living together. It's somehow both a little deranged, and completely wholesome which would be a great tagline for this series actually.
content warnings: emotional abuse, loss of a loved one (in the recent past), violence, sex (on page), primal kink, praise/degradation kink, kidnapping, suicide, suicidal ideation, brainwashing, psychological torture, physical torture, murder
