The Baby Shower

mysterious

medium-paced
I saw every single twist and turn coming a mile away, but the story didn't strike me as one hoping to shock its readers with mind-blowing twists. Instead it telegraphed its twists well and made them feel logical and like natural developments/reveals which made the appeal of the story its characters, their relationships, and the musings of, mainly, Jane. So the predictability didn't matter. In fact, I quite appreciated it and I wish more stories were like this. Stories where the author cares more about delivering a satisfying story than pulling the rug out from under their readers. The actual writing felt better than commonly found in your usual generic domestic thriller too. My main complaint, really, was that some of the plotting was a little too contrived in an effort to prolong the misunderstandings and miscommunications. But all in all it was a good listen and I'm definitely checking out more from this author.
