Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick

5.0

I enjoyed Asbury High and the Parcels of Poison by Kelly Brady Channick. It’s the second in the Asbury High series, but I didn’t need to read the first to understand what was going on.

The characters were delightful, even though I don’t see them as the Scooby Gang, like a lot of people have described them (I think you need a dog for that). I loved how the characters were friends and supported each other. And I loved Carley’s parents. They weren’t stereotypical, though there were a bit absent. I wasn’t fond of Neal’s dad or his never seen mother, but the AI had a cruddy attitude enough for her.

The mystery was interesting. People are falling over with food poisoining during the summer, all while a suspicious new pancake house is opened next to the gang’s favorite hangout. The author dropped clues throughout the book that figuring out the culprit was easy enough, but I’m a lot older than the target audience.

Again, I’m not normally a YA reader, but this book was so engaging that I will go back to read the rest of the series and recommending it to the teenagers I know. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting an enjoyable read that reminds you of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys.
