Patience by Daniel Clowes

4.0

This had the trappings of Gen-X guy comics right from the jump (and admittedly throughout) so I wasn't sure how I was going to get through the dud protaganist's non-stop narration but he just fumbles the bag so many times and the comic gets so ridiculous and then a little romantic? It's a chaotic spin on a revenge story. I love the way the storytelling is broken up by time. Those jump cuts really help move the mopey storyline along. Giving the narration over to Patience at certain points also helps her unfortunately mostly tenuous agency in the book as well. Better than nothing, I suppose, but it is her name on the book, not the guy who's name I can't even remember that talks the whole time. This is only the second or third by Daniel Clowes I've read. I have Eightball on the shelf so I'm interested in reading what many consider his best work.
