The Magicians by Lev Grossman

2.0

The SYFY show brought me to this book series and it was a little surprising to learn how much of the show had taken liberties with this adaptation. I am not one that holds the source material sacred and I have to be honest the changes the writing room made on this show vastly improved the story.

Fillory and the darker side of Narnia still exist in the novel but the charm and camp that the show leans into, especially in later seasons are all gone. Q and Alice are definitely the two most boring characters in the show and this book leans on them a lot more heavily. I was interested enough to move on to the next book, but I really flew by on 2x speeds at times to get through this one.
