Under Heaven by Guy Gavriel Kay
4.0

Guy Gavriel Kay continues to astound me with each book of his I've read. The first in his most recently completed trilogy, "Under Heaven," was unlike any other Kay book I've devoured. While in many cases it was what I've come to expect from Kay's masterful work, the plot and pacing caught me by surprise.

He dwelled a lot in the solitude, and personal reflection. Huge war scenes, battles and confrontations you would expect to witness occurred off page, and were mere summaries. Aside from attempted assassinations (and successful ones), that was just how the book went from start to finish.

That being said, it was, as usual, his immense, intricate characters, their relationships, and personal developments that make it.
