I enjoyed this book, but...
The execution was hugely problematic. The narrative got away from the compelling central mystery and wandered too much. This was unfortunate, because I very much wanted the book to fully develop the mystery aspect as that was my favorite part. Sadly, it did not.
Spoiler-y, so read beyond the tag at your own risk.
I still want to read the next installment, though. I'm interested to see where the series goes from here.

Also, I was extremely annoyed by how credulous Miles is. I mean, he's very, very stupid when it comes to his sister. Her sudden and inevitable betrayal (hahahaha!) surprised me not one iota, however much it surprised him. Instead, I was scratching my head and wondering why anyone in their right mind would wander back into the belly of the beast after going to great lengths to escape it.I still want to read the next installment, though.
