Love, Ruby Lavender
by Deborah Wiles
Short, simple, sad (9yo dealing with her grandfather's death, which happens a year before the book opens, not a spoiler, and loneliness). Great book for prompting discussions about emotions, grief, friendships and family relationships. Read aloud to my 8yo. She enjoyed answering the book club questions at the end. (It is suggested for a grandmother-granddaughter bookclub.)
