Artificial Condition by Martha Wells

Long ago I made a rule of thumb for myself that I wouldn't read books in a series back to back or anywhere near it. Leaving two or three months between similar reads works best. The temptation is to just keep going with a series I'm enjoying but stopping in between works better. Two books from the same series in quick succession just gets a bit too samey. It's like getting out of a nice bath and deciding to have another one straight away. You need a break, do something else, do something stressful so you need to relax again, even just get dirty again in fact. So it is with reading books. I thought I'd make an exception here because these are short novellas and not full length books. It was a mistake and I got bored. Rather than reading the book quickly and enjoying it I dragged it out over a couple of weeks and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I wanted to.

The setup is intriguing and I'm looking forward to finding out how Murderbot fares as time goes on, but I'll leave a bit longer before reading the next one!
