The Avant-Guards, Vol. 2 by Carly Usdin

4.0

Vol. 2 ★★★★☆ (3.5)

It's been a minute (or like three years!) since I read the first volume, but I really enjoyed jumping back into this series. These comics follow a college intramural basketball team called the Avant-Guards, made up of a diverse group of art students. The story is light and funny, with an awesome cast of characters. I'm so glad that this volume gave insight into the characters who were more sidelined in the first volume. The plot follows the struggles of keeping the League operating despite loss of a sponsor and thin spectator crowds, while also focusing on each team members individual struggles with school, relationships, injuries, and secrets. There are also silly little gags, mostly in the rival basketball teams. Very fun overall! 3.5 stars
