So many things could be said about this book. To start, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Yes, it was long. Yes, there were a ton of characters. Yes, there were a lot of extra details. But all of those things made the story what it was, which was a great story. Each character feels fully fleshed out. They all have a purpose, flaws, some with endearing qualities, and traumas of their own. The themes of this book propel the story forward in such a way that you must know what happened. The legacy, the privilege, the guilt, the secrets, all of it. Liz Moore does an incredible job of showing us that no matter what, no matter how long, no matter how buried, the truth will always come to light. The underlying theme of morality was especially intriguing to me…the characters constantly consumed by the struggle between doing what is expected of them and doing what is truly best for them. No one is exactly as they seem, of course. And I couldn’t have guessed the twist even if I tried, due to its complexity. The ending did leave something to be desired, but also made perfect sense.
And screw you, Annabel. I knew you were a weirdo from the start.
