went into this book a little wary, because I have a small attention span and even though I really want to get into longer fantasy books, the extensive writing makes me hesitant. But this book!! At the end of it I was totally the neighbor's kid from The Incredibles shouting "that was totally wicked!" to the bewilderment of some, because whole this book was amazing, it is DEFINITELY a slow burn.

You literally meet FitzChivalry in the main story before he's ten, and end the book years later. You see Fitz as he trains for the king, through his rises and falls with his mentors and furry friends. And even though the world building is large and extensive, it feels like Fitz and Robin Hobb are speaking to you like you're a friend they've invited to their apartment and you finally get to find out why they are the way they are. No character goes unwasted, and you feel Fitz's frustration and grief and love like its your own. The book feels alive in ways that so little books have been to me recently. I can't wait to read the second one!
