The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom
4.0
This is a must-read for everyone who is doubtful of their importance in life or who find it hard to believe that their existence is of any significance. Mitch Albom's writing is very gentle and mild and yet exquisitely moving. The relationship between Eddie and Marguerite has been drawn out so well, with none of the usual contemporary cringe or show; yet it illustrates such a warm and compassionate picture that one can possibly relate to. One of my favourite quotes from the book is: "Love, like rain, can nourish from above, drenching couples with a soaking joy. But sometimes, under the angry heat of life, love dries on the surface and must nourish from below, tending to its roots, keeping itself alive."
The question pursued by the story is one that every person in this world has possibly asked, at least once but probably several times. Although the essence of the answer provided by the book is nothing new, and what we've all heard here or there, the plot of the story has served in some magical way to make it seem more convincing. The way all the 5 people he meets in heaven are linked to him indirectly, the way they each teach him a lesson, and finally the way each of those lessons add up to form a whole - which is the answer to the question.
