I loved the topics discussed in the book are ones I feel many people fear going near. I absolutely loved the depth and tenacity the author took to create a story now beloved by many.
When I was little and watching movies, every time the villain would do something heinous, I would turn to my mom and say, "Wow, I cannot stand them." And in return, she would say, "You aren't supposed to." THAT perfectly describes our main character Evelyn Hugo. The main character IS the villain (not a spoiler) who continuously makes awful decisions. I wanted to dislike the book so much because of the main character but I could not because it was SO WELL WRITTEN. There were very strong feelings the author stirred up in me and that is exactly what books are intended to do in my opinion.
