Light Filters In: Poems
by Caroline Kaufman
In general, I'm not a big fan of poetry. I don't read it often, and when I do, I try to strategically make selections that I'm positive I will enjoy. I got it right with this one. Kaufman's words are beautifully and brutally honest. Trigger warnings abound as this work deals deeply with mental illness, sexual assualt, abusive relationships, and self-harm. Despite all that, it is ultimately a hopeful collection. My personal favorite of the poems included here is the one about hands. We all choose what to do with them. I' m grateful Kaufman chose to use hers to share her story with the world.
