One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

4.0

3.5 stars
This one hurts, you guys. I wanted to read another TJR book after loving Seven Husbands so much. I ordered this book in December when I was feeling particularly brave. I tried to start reading it at Christmas time, but I could tell it was going to be so heart wrenching, I put it off for later. This summer, I was going on a 15 hour road trip to a 2 week vacation, and I thought, now's the time. Truth is, I don't know if there is ever a good time to read this book. It's just too sad. It also made me angry. Emma was so frustrating at times. She was so insistent that she had changed, but didn't even attempt to catch up her husband on her new life and interests.

I do have to say, though, that I disagree with the people who were upset with who she ended up with in the end. I don't think there was a GOOD potential outcome- it was going to be heartbreaking either way. But the opposite outcome would not have made for a good story.
For my personal tastes, this book is 3 stars, as it kind of broke my spirit. However, it is so well written, it doesn't feel right rating it that low. So I'll compromise here with a 3.5.
