How Dare the Sun Rise: Memoirs of a War Child
by Sandra Uwiringiyimana, Abigail Pesta
One of my favorite things about serving in the Army was meeting people from all over the U.S, befriending them, and loving them. As a white guy from whiteville, it was a little uncomfortable at first but ultimately wonderful, eye-opening, and world-widening.
I get that same feeling from this book. The author went through terrible things and comes from a place that is completely foreign to me. I loved reading about her journey. Other reviewers preferred the first half of the book while she was in Africa but I liked the second half just as much. Learning about our complicated American race relations from her point of view was enlightening and sad.
No kidding, I got through this entire book in one day.
