The first half of this book is pretty slow and is very dense when it comes to the worldbuilding. Kitasei tends to tell her readers the lore instead of showing it to us, which is fine in some regards, but a lot of the worldbuilding is literally spelled out in ink. Nevertheless, I did read the second half of the book in a single day because that was when it really picked up and I loved how treacherous it felt towards the end. Overall, a pretty strong debut novel and I look forward to seeing what else Kitasei writes in the future.
