A Year in Her Life by Alice Benson

2.0

DNF.

I was so excited to read something out of my comfort zone, but this is unreadable. I mean, sure, someone could and has read it, but I simply do not have the time to suffer through something this mediocre. The prose has so many run-on sentences you can't help but think about James Joyce. Bonnie, our main character, is so focused on introspection that we just get floods of exposition for an entire scene, and then two monosyllabic sentences of actual character interaction.

Look at this quote from like 5 pages in: "Excitement about the possibilities, fears of not being good enough, regrets about some of her answers bombarded her from all directions and she wanted to huddle in the warmth and protection of loving arms, talking until the sun came up , surprising them both that the night was gone , lost in the wonder of their connection."

That is one sentence, folks.

If this is what all litfic is like just save us all the trouble and tell me now.
