After the delightful enchantment of "The Mid Witch," my expectations for its sequel were high . While Book 2 retains the charm of well-crafted characters and their quirky familiars, it stumbles slightly in its portrayal of Lilly.

In the first book, Lilly embarked on a transformative journey, blossoming as she embraced her newfound magical abilities. However, this second installment sees her regressing, rather frustratingly, into a less assertive and more passive role. Where one might expect Lilly to stride confidently on her path, she instead tiptoes, often letting circumstances dictate her actions.

Despite these gripes, the writing remains sharp and the world enchanting, keeping me hooked and hopeful. Lilly's hesitance is a realistic portrayal of personal growth, which is seldom linear and often fraught with setbacks. This gives a touch of realism to her character's development, though it does test the patience of us rooting for her ultimate empowerment.

Looking forward to read the final chapter!
