This is absolutely one of my favourite Georgette Heyer books. The beginning is a little slow (as they always are in Heyer novels) but once Frederica is on the scene with her family, the book is a joy. Alverstoke is a mature cynical character with a fabulous sense of humour. Frederica is a competent and intelligent heroine. Her brothers bring so much fun to the book, especially seeing Alverstoke have to put himself out for them.

This book is about family, and the contrast between Alverstoke's lukewarm relationship with his own siblings vs. the tight knit Merrivale crew is entertaining.

I have read this book a dozen times and listened to multiple audio versions. It's a delight every time.
