Ariadne Unraveled: A Mythic Retelling
by Zenobia Neil
I didn't recall stories of Dionysus and Ariadne as a couple, in ancient legends of Greece and Crete, but I like this one better. Theseus of Athens still has his part to play, and the Minotaur, and his maze, but women are much more empowered in this version.
I love the women's garb being authentically bared breasts, for their pride and strength. I really liked the thread that grief has twisted the actions of some authentically "good" people into doing horrific things - and then there's what the gods get up to, holy thunderbolts!
The sex scenes are steamy, the characters are believable (well, while being gods and demigods and goddesses), and the journey to Hades, fascinating. This novel really had me turning pages to get to the end, and left me happy when I finished.
