Pantomime was originally written in the early 2010s and what a feat that was! There are so many queer characters and themes present throughout the entire novel which is refreshing. The main character, Micah, is intersex and queer, and finds his family among the circus-folk while navigating news of his special existence as Chimaera. It’s fascinating, the world excellently built around Micah’s experience and the little snippets of history at the beginning of each chapter. I adored this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Thank you to DAW Books for this advanced copy!
