Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin

5.0

Interesting Facts About Space  is a raw, emotional, and humorous look ito mental health, family dynamics, and human connection. I loved the neurodivergent protagonist Enid who struggles with anxiety, PTSD, and paranoia. I really like how Emily Austin handled these mental health themes and it was authentic. Emily Austin wrote a character that is so realistic down to the chewing on Polly Pocket clothes. I actually liked the short paragraph sections within the chapters because it reflected Enid’s fragmented thought process, which helped me get inside of her mind and join her on her journey, if that makes sense. Edit was such a complex character that I think is rarer to read about. She wants connection but can’t help but push others away. She has complicated relationships with her family and I enjoyed seeing how that all unfolded. The title does not disappoint; there are fun space facts sprinkled throughout which I thought was fun. I liked the self-discovery in this book and how much Enid had to grow and still has to grow and find self acceptance. The resolution at the end was satisfying, but it was quick! This book is a whirlwind of emotions where I laughed, I cried, I put the book down for 25 minutes and just walked around, and overall  just felt all of the emotions. I will not forget this book. I love Emily Austin’s books!
