A heartwrenching narrative of a free man, Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. Written prior to the war for Southern Independence it reflects not only his own experiences but every day life of those held as slaves. Unlike Roots which was written as a story of one family progressing though the years of slavery this was a eye witness account of this time in American History. I would recommend this work to everyone to read.
