Not in Love by Ali Hazelwood
3.75
So. I had to sit on this one to decide how to rate this one.
I 'll start off by saying it took me longer than expected to get into it, but it helped that I had read that this one was more of an erotic romance than rom-com. So my expectations adjusted accordingly.
This was a different Ali Hazelwood book than we are used to. She has been trying new things for the last year ( the YA, the Fantasy(I did like Bride), so I appreciated that we didn't get the SAME story as we have the last few years. To be honest, they were becoming redundant. Not that that's a bad thing, but I like my expectations shaken up a little from time to time.
THIS IS NOT A ROM COM. Its not even a Stem based romance. It's just two smart people ( one who is very socially awkward) who reluctantly fall in love. It's not enemies to lovers. It's not even really forbidden romance. It's just...a sexual relationship that evolves into a real relationship and has complications.
It took me a minute to really get into it. I loved the dual point of view but it also kind of threw me that Rue's was in 1st person and Eli's was in 3rd. But it did help distinguish the two.
ALL of this to say that in the end, I enjoyed the book and the story and the romance much more than I thought I would even when I was halfway through the book.
In the end I'm giving it a 3.75
Which for me means it's solid. I'd recommend it.
