The Angel of Rome: And Other Stories
by Jess Walter
I went into this sceptical that I would like a short story format, but I came out having read a dozen diverse stories that included a brilliant cast of characters all with their own flaws and sides of humanity. I loved how each story took me to a different part of the word to put me inside the life of a new person while the writing itself often experimented with new concepts and styles. Absolutely worth the read even if, like me, you were cautious about short stories.
