Leona by Evie Black
5.0
omg this was just as good as the first! No 2nd book slump in this series. What I loved about the first book was how Evie had written the characters and once again I am in love with these characters! I loved Leona and Zandros! Leona was a bad ass bitch and had more than earned the right to call herself that as she was stronger than most bear shifters women and even most men. While mentally you can tell she is strong you can also see that is because inside she is also vulnerable which makes her relatable in a lot of ways especially for being a powerful woman. I loved Zandros who was like the male version of Leona in some ways willing to go toe to toe with her but not to establish some kind of dominance over her but rather to show her that he is strong enough to stand by her side and help her. I loved their interactions together and how they truly treated each other as equals.
I loved the story line as well when it came to the competition as it really brought out the characters and my heart was pounding and towards the end all the feels came out when their relationship was put through the final ringer. I will say I have to wonder what these characters did to the author because at every corner it seemed like someone was hurt to the point of death that the only reason they survived as they are basically immortal.
I also loved the glimpses of Sebastian and lucy and their family and their struggles as Tristin is still at large. I can't wait to read the next book.
The Story is about Chief Leona who is being advised that she needs to marry one of two sons of a polar bear chief to secure an alliance between their tribes. However, as one of the strongest bear shifters (women and most men) she doesn't want to give up her power as she sees most men as being weaker physically and emotionally and just doesn't want to deal with that. In an effort to prove their worth to her they join her at the strength beat festival and compete with her to prove their worth to their gods and her. But something is different about this festival from festivals in the past. So, while trying to survive that she is fighting her attraction to the younger son who seems determined to push all her buttons. Will she survive, will she take a mate? Read to find out.
