Fun October read! Very atmospheric. Loved El as a character, and her friends. Bad writing detracted from the experience. (Novik spends so much time trying desperately to explain why this deadly magical school is the way it is, constantly interrupting the flow of the plot to insert long-winded explanations. Despite this her world contains so many confusing contradictions. Also just says things weirdly? Like, bad writing on a more granular sentence level, so you’re left wondering what she meant by that constantly.)
