Wild Swans: Three Daughters of China
by Jung Chang
this one started off really strong for me and i found the author's grandma's story really compelling, and as it entered the age of mao's communism, although i still found it interesting the story took a dip and almost felt quite repetitive due to how the author's parents fall under questioning and then resolve their relationship with communism and then fall under questioning again. i guess the reptitiveness of this back and forth reflects the absuridty of communism as a whole, but it got quite frustrating to read. also the author writes in a slightly unemotional manner which just made the story feel slightly disconnected even though it is her LIFE STORY.
it did help me develop a better understanding of mao's china and is such an important piece of history that has to be told and retold, to ensure that future leaders don't take advantage of their power like that again.
