Continuing on from Whisper Wells, after Theo had been rescued from his kidnapping, his loss of magic and almost dying. He was hurting, embarrassed and wanted to hide from the world, so staying at the Black Stump Tavern felt like the right thing to do.
I really enjoyed this story watching Theo trying new things after losing his magic, getting closer to his brother Tor and finally having proper friends. Roan was a big teddy bear trying and failing to hide his attraction to Theo. He was very protective over Theo and I loved when he got all growly.
This was a different pace to Whisper Wells as there was no epic adventure but 2 characters growing together, watching them fall in love and Theo realising he is more than his academic achievements.
It was good to catch up with Tor, Caelan, Seff and Edith and get introduced to more new secondary characters. With a tease to Seff's story this is a series that I am really enjoying.
