Today Will Be Different by Maria Semple

This book came highly praised and I’m not totally sure why. It’s not the worst book but it’s definitely did not make me want to run out and share this book with everyone I know. I think that a lot of people don’t understand character-driven books (as opposed to plot-driven, which most people are used to) and that’s why the ratings are so low on Goodreads.
Quite frankly, this book is a white rich person with white rich people problems. Eleanor is simultaneously kinda relatable and unrelatable. I relate to feeling crazy sometimes. I don’t relate to having the kind of money where I can afford to pay someone hundreds of dollars a month to listen to me recite poems from memory. I relate to jealousy. I don’t relate to being so jealous that I tie my dog to a post outside a grocery store and leave him there for hours.
Also, I’m not quite sure how a publisher just forgets about a book they’ve paid an advance for. That left me quite angry.
