crookedtreehouse 's review for:
Bttm Fdrs
by Ezra Claytan Daniels, Ben Passmore
I'm not a fan of horror comics but I was intrigued by the concept of "Gentrification Horror". It turns out that it's not something I'm particularly interested in.
I loved the beginning of this story, but the monsters were neither frightening nor interesting to me, even when their purpose was revealed. I was most interested in the problematic relationship between the two main characters. I thought Daniels did a great job of showing their evolving and declining friendship, but I just couldn't get into the terror of the house, or really any of the other characters.
I think if you like horror, this might still work for you. Daniels has a great grasp of dialogue, and Passmore is excellent at his particularly stylized art (odds are good, you'll either love it or hate it, I happen to love it).
For me, this was a near-hit (so, a miss). I'd rather go back and reread Daniels's [b:Upgrade Soul|39279780|Upgrade Soul|Ezra Claytan Daniels|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1523660792l/39279780._SY75_.jpg|61608011], which I thought was a five star book.
