On Connection by Kae Tempest
inspiring
reflective
fast-paced
I bought this short Book convinced it was a poetry collection. It turned out to be a collection of essays-thoughts-meditations on the concept of connection. Poet, writer & musician Kar Tempest draw on their experiences of art & performance to question the notion of connection, what it means and how we can strive to achieve it in a world that feels like it’s more and more disconnected. Written during the 2020 lockdown but with a larger scope, Tempest quotes Jung and Blake, talks about numbness and wandering and the distinction between creativity and craft. I often felt myself nodding approvingly inside as the author describes raw personale experiences that take on a universal meaning although I'm not a poet and I've never given a spoken-word performance, or even attended one. Despite stating hard truths, this is a hopefully little book that posits connection as that thing that will have humanity.
