The Exact Opposite of Okay
by Laura Steven
I question the last time that I’ve laughed so much while being taught about a subject that most call “taboo”. Laura Steven does a profound job at allowing you to see the many double standards that women face, WHILE LAUGHING. I’ve seen women and men, pick up a cause and lose a part of themselves, and I believe you shouldn’t have to pick sides.
Now, I’m going to get a bit truthful here, Steven opened my eyes to judgments I’ve made in the past over someone else’s decisions. AND I WAS SO WRONG. I have always thought that women can do the same as men, but until I got to college, I didn’t realize how much that still wasn’t happening. Double standards, privilege, and men & women siding to hate other women. How dare I or anyone else ever think that we have a right to step into someone’s life and degrade them for who they decide to have sex with, if they decide to have sex, or who THEY DECIDE to have sex with. I’ve seen countless women called sluts for enjoying sex or for being a tease or just not giving it up to a Nice Guy. ALSO, Laura opened my eyes to the Nice Guy policy. I’ve heard sooooo many guys complain about being friend zoned, but if that’s all you were after, are you any better than the guy openly trying for it?
It’s 2018 and we still haven’t learned to treat everyone, whether male or female, gay or straight, or any color EQUALLY? When are you going to pull it together? Soon, I hope. Laura Steven, you made me laugh, you made me get riled up, and I’m glad to be fighting for equality alongside a women as wonderful as you and Izzy O’Neill.
